While it's crucial for leaders and male colleagues to support diversity initiatives, women must also actively advocate for themselves.

In this episode, I’ll discuss the importance of self-advocacy, setting standards, and taking responsibility for one's professional development.

Here’s a brief scoop of what’s in store and a quick run-down of the 7 practices you should be adopting now in your career:

  1. Don’t Wait for Permission: Don't wait for others to recognize your needs or invite you to the table. Identify what you want and take initiative to be included in important discussions and decisions.

  2. Lead the Conversation: Take charge of meetings by preparing a brief hit list of key points and updates. This shows leadership and helps manage conversations effectively, positioning you as a proactive professional.

  3. Plan Ahead: Preparation and planning are essential for being taken seriously in leadership roles. Show up to your responsibilities prepared, researched, and on time.

  4. Learn From Others: Always be a learner, regardless of your position. Observe and emulate the qualities of those you admire, and learn from everyone around you.

  5. Communicate Out Loud: Open and honest communication is crucial. Don't let feelings fester—express your needs and address issues openly to break down barriers.

  6. Create Healthy Margin: Maintain a healthy work-life balance. Prioritize self-care, rest, nutrition, and mental health to be the best version of yourself at work and in life.

  7. Find Solutions: Be solution-oriented. When identifying problems, bring potential solutions to your leaders. This demonstrates leadership and initiative, helping you advance quickly.
